The operation of the Toyota plant in the UK will stop if there are no special agreements made to anticipate Brexit. The factory in Derby relies on supply of components from European Union countries.
Brexit or the British movement out of the European Union has been set in the referendum in June 2016. Britain will officially exit the European Union on March 29, 2019.
"My view is that if the UK leaves the European Union at the end of March we will see production stop at our factory," said Marvin Cooke, Managing Director at the Toyota plant in Derby, broadcast on Saturday, from the BBC
.
The Toyota plant in Derby employs 2,500 employees and produced 150,000 units last year. Production models include the Avensis and Auris models. As many as 90 percent of the total production is exported to the European Union.
England Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Greg Clark said Toyota and other manufacturers with similar problems showed businesses needed special agreements for the supply chain.
"We need to get an agreement ... we want to get the best agreement that allows not only current success to be enjoyed but also to understand opportunities," Clark said.
His current condition is that talks between the UK and the EU reached a halt after a plan presented by British Prime Minister Theresa May was rejected
